When visitors come to your home, the first thing that is usually noticed is usually the design of the front door. Everyone wants to have a door that is appealing and also that complements the exterior of your home.

Door is essential part of the house or building, as door is a solid barrier fixed in door way or opening in a wall and it provides safety and privacy. It consists of two parts i.e. frame and shutter and can be opened for access to and from buildings, between rooms. According to material doors can be classified as wooden doors, iron doors, PVC or plastic doors and aluminium doors etc., which are available in the market. Now a day’s aluminium doors, windows and glazing are widely used.

In commercial building aluminum doors are mostly in use and these are serving the purpose to enhance the beauty of commercial complex according to architect requirement. Aluminum alloy standard extruded sections are used for fabrication of aluminium doors. The chemical composition and mechanical properties of these extruded sections should comply with the requirements of IS 733, IS 1285, IS 737. Aluminium is corrosion resistance and it is inert to Sulphur. Aluminium alloy extruded sections in different forms used in the manufacture of frames and shutters of doors and windows and supports for hand rails, wall facing, partitions and similar other applications, where surface finish is important and medium strength would suffice shall conform to IS733 and IS1285.

There are some advantages and disadvantages of aluminium doors over the other doors as wooden doors and iron doors etc.


  • One of the biggest advantages of aluminium is that it’s very light but still strong.
  • Aluminium doors provide beauty, warmth and style.
  • Aluminium door are most environmental friendly in comparison of wooden door.
  • They have long life have no effect of rust, corrosion and termite effect.
  • Clean easily simply by dusting and washing.
  • They have less maintenance cost.
  • Aluminium doors are good choice for commercial building and offices.
  • They provide weatherproof quality.
  • Aluminium door require no any periodical or annual expenditure on paint or polish.


  • The great problem with aluminium is that it doesn’t hold heat in well.
  • Aluminium doors will oxidant. This oxidation appears as white residue and pitting( cavity)
  • Aluminium can be water stained easily.
  • Aluminium can corrode quickly if suitable precautions against electrolysis are not taken.
  • Welding of aluminum requires specialized equipment, hence costly.
